Practice Lead – Transit

Nic Johnson is the Transit Practice Lead at Charter, where he oversees the company’s growing portfolio of transit infrastructure projects across British Columbia. With a background in civil engineering and years of experience in mining, construction, project management, and cost consulting, Nic plays a central role in guiding public sector clients through all phases of project delivery—from early planning to procurement, implementation, and closeout.

Prior to joining Charter, Nic worked internationally in fisheries, mining, and heavy civil construction across South America, Africa, and Central Asia. Since transitioning to consulting, he has led the delivery of construction cost estimates, project budgets, risk assessments, and delivery strategies for a range of high-profile transit initiatives including the Surrey Langley SkyTrain, UBC Millennium Line Extension, Broadway Subway, and Operations & Maintenance Centres (OMC 4 & 5).

As Transit Practice Lead, Nic manages team operations, business development, client relations, and internal advisory services. He is known for his ability to translate complex technical and financial inputs into actionable, stakeholder-aligned strategies. His work supports business case development, funding approvals, earned value tracking, bid evaluations, and overall project governance.

Nic's deep knowledge of cost estimating, and constructability—paired with his commitment to client service—makes him a trusted advisor for municipalities, transit authorities, and design teams across Western Canada’s evolving transit landscape.
