Practice Lead – Major Projects
Monty Knaus is the Practice Lead for Major Projects at Charter, bringing over 23 years of experience in the planning, design, and delivery of complex transportation and bridge infrastructure across Canada. A professional engineer with an Executive MBA, Monty has built a career around leading multidisciplinary teams through every phase of project development—from concept and procurement through to construction and closeout.
Monty has played key roles as Owner’s Engineer and project lead on some of British Columbia’s most significant infrastructure projects, including the Kicking Horse Canyon Phase 4, Pattullo Bridge Replacement, Fraser River Tunnel Project, and the Highway 1 Fraser Valley Corridor Improvements. He has extensive experience managing complex alternative delivery models, particularly design-build and progressive design-build, with a proven track record of guiding projects through successful procurement, stakeholder engagement, and technical execution.
Prior to joining Charter, Monty held senior leadership roles at WSP and MMM Group, where he directed large-scale infrastructure initiatives across Western Canada. His background in bridge engineering and deep understanding of structural, geotechnical, hydrotechnical, and transportation design processes make him an effective integrator of technical disciplines. Known for his clarity, organization, and collaborative leadership, Monty ensures project teams stay aligned with budget, scope, and stakeholder expectations.
Whether developing reference concept designs, resolving contract disputes, or managing multi-agency teams, Monty brings a solutions-oriented approach to delivering infrastructure that is resilient, efficient, and community-focused.
