Burnaby Mountain Gondola
Project Overview
The Burnaby Mountain Gondola is a proposed rapid transit link connecting Production Way–University SkyTrain Station to Simon Fraser University atop Burnaby Mountain. Designed to offer fast, frequent, and reliable service, the gondola aims to significantly reduce travel time, improve year-round dependability, and support growing regional demand. It will carry up to 30 passengers per cabin with departures every minute during peak periods. The project is included in TransLink’s 10-Year “Access for Everyone” priorities and has strong support—with 83% of residents in favour, including SFU students and Burnaby residents . Following extensive technical studies and 2023 public engagement, the preferred route was confirmed. TransLink is now finalizing the business case, environmental review, and funding pathway before proceeding to approval and construction.
Charter is supporting the Burnaby Mountain Gondola Project by providing specialized cost estimation and constructability review services for both interim and final reference concept designs. Charter is providing capital and life-cycle cost estimates, constructability insights, and risk-informed analysis to help refine the design and support key decision-making milestones. We ensures that cost and schedule considerations are integrated early in the process, promoting a technically sound, cost-effective, and constructible solution that supports long-term operational success.
